How to Apply for Geriatrics Fellowship
We are particularly interested in applicants who are concerned with health care for an aging and geriatric population.
We select fellows through the Medicine Subspecialty Match, which is part of the National Residency Match Program. You must submit your application through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS), along with all supporting documents. We require, in addition to the application form, the following materials:
Application Checklist
- Current curriculum vitae
- Personal statement
- Final medical school transcript
- Three letters of recommendation
- United States Medical Licensing Examination transcript
- Dean’s letter and medical school performance evaluation
You should apply approximately one year before you would like to join us, usually during your PGY-3 year or final year of fellowship training.
We participate in visa programs J-1, H-1-B, but require that you reside in the United States; we do not consider those living abroad.
How to Apply to the HPM Fellowship
We look for applicants who have completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association accredited residency program in Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Radiation Oncology, or Surgery. We select fellows through the National Residency Match Program. You must submit your application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), along with all supporting documents.
Application Checklist
Our subspecialty of Hospice and Palliative Medicine has ten parent boards that serve as co-sponsors under the American Board of Medical Specialties. We welcome applicants who have trained in any of these specialities, including:

● Emergency Medicine
● Family Medicine
● Internal Medicine
● Obstetrics and Gynecology
● Pediatrics
● Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
● Psychiatry and Neurology
● Radiology
● Surgery
The Match
All The following must be uploaded to ERAS:
● Curriculum vitae
● Personal statement outlining your reasons for pursuing a career in palliative medicine, your experiences with palliative care, and a statement of your career goals
● At least three letters of support including one from your most recent program director
● Test scores (e.g., United States Medical Licensing Examination or Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates)
