Medicine - Geriatrics Residency Fellowship Program
This combined program integrates the clinical requirements for geriatrics fellowship across a 4- year continuum. By seamlessly incorporating geriatric-related clinical experiences throughout the PGY1-PGY3 years, trainees receive the benefit of early mentorship and experience while also allowing dedicated time during their PGY 4 year to devote to professional activities (scholarship, research training, leadership courses, and advanced training in clinician-education).
During the geriatrics rotations from PGY1-3, the resident will attend geriatrics academic afternoon curriculum. The curriculum covers core geriatrics syndromes, multicomplexity, journal clubs, case conferences, quality improvement, pharmacology pearls, research overview, teaching skills, curriculum development, narrative medicine, wellness activities. Additionally, they will be assigned a geriatrics mentor and meet quarterly with the geriatric fellowship program director.
Structure:
To fulfill the geriatric clinical requirements of the combined program, we will incorporate geriatric clinical experiences according to the following timetable:
PGY1: 1 month Geriatrics
PGY2: 2 months Geriatrics
PGY3: 3 months Geriatrics
These experiences include but are not limited to; outpatient geriatrics, inpatient geriatrics, palliative care, psychiatry, rheumatology, visiting doctors, and urogynecology.
Our Medicine-Geriatrics Residency Fellowship Program is divided into two locations.
The first location is with our Primary Care Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital(MSH). The second location is with our Internal Medicine Residency Program at Mount Sinai Morningside/ Mount Sinai West (MSM/MSW).
