Message from the Program Director
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Infectious Disease Fellowship is committed to providing our fellows with diverse and rich clinical and research experiences in preparation for their future careers in Infectious Diseases. The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is a large health care system with multiple clinical sites and research programs throughout New York City. Our fellowship program provides comprehensive infectious disease training at The Mount Sinai Hospital, a tertiary care teaching hospital, where fellows gain experience in HIV medicine, general and emerging infectious diseases, and transplant infectious diseases. Core rotations also take place at Elmhurst Hospital Center, a city hospital in the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in the nation where fellows gain experiences evaluating infections in immigrants and travelers. Throughout clinical training, fellows provide care to diverse patient populations which fosters opportunity to further address disparities in healthcare.
We also provide growing opportunities in basic science, translational and clinical research and have expanding programs such as the Clinical and Translational Research Center, COVID Clinical Trials Unit and the Institute of Advanced Medicine. The health care system also provides our trainees with integrated learning experiences throughout our clinical programs with joint conferences and didactic sessions. The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Infectious Disease Fellowship equips our fellows for successful careers in academic medicine, research, and clinical practice.
The comprehensive clinical and research curriculum is complemented by an educational curriculum that includes a weekly clinical case conference, weekly microbiology rounds, weekly infectious diseases grand rounds, fellow lecture series, and monthly journal club. Our grand rounds features expert faculty from our own institution as well as internationally recognized leaders and covers a broad range of clinical and scientific topics. The lecture series is taught by infectious disease staff throughout the Sinai healthcare system and faculty throughout the Department of Medicine. Our fellows have the opportunity to interact and learn from the expertise and experiences within the Mount Sinai healthcare system through integrated journal clubs and several joint conferences between different training sites.
Thank you for your interest and we hope you will apply to our program!
