Fellow Testimonials

Farah Rahman, MD

Class of 2020

Training for my ID fellowship at Mount Sinai prepared me not only to be a skilled clinician, but also a skilled clinical researcher, as the program is strong in both fields. In addition to being in a collaborative environment, I got the best of both worlds training at Mt Sinai and was able to pursue both passions as an ID physician.

Sarah Alsamarai, MD

Class of 2021

Training at Mount Sinai and rotating at Elmhurst Hospital gave me excellent skills in diagnosing and managing a wide range of infectious diseases — from multi-drug resistant bacteria to invasive fungal infections to a range of viruses and tropical diseases. I am grateful to the patients I had the privilege to treat alongside superb attendings, who taught me so much along the way.

Ammara Mushtaq, MD

Class of 2021

Training at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai helped me develop strong clinical skills that prepared me for my current role as an ID physician. I received invaluable feedback from my mentors and always felt supported. My training also allowed me to gain critical research experience that I have been able to use to further my academic career. My colleagues and mentors from Sinai continue to help me along my career path. I feel confident that I can excel in any role as a physician and a researcher as a result of my training.

Keith Sigel, MD, MPH, PhD

Class of 2011

My infectious diseases training at Mount Sinai was the broadest clinical experience I could imagine from an ID fellowship. There are not many programs out there that can provide such a deep experience. It also gave me the flexibility to prepare for an NIH career development award, which I successfully competed for during fellowship.

Lindsey Bornstein Gottlieb, MD

Class of 2019

I am very thankful for my experience as a fellow in the Infectious Diseases division at Mount Sinai. The breadth and depth of clinical exposure was incredibly comprehensive. My mentors were kind and supportive and helped me secure a job within the Mount Sinai health system in my field of interest (i.e. hospital epidemiology) immediately after fellowship. While I ultimately moved away from New York to be closer to family and join the faculty at Emory, I continue to maintain close relationships with friends and mentors from training.

Vincent De Chavez, MD

Class of 2020

As a native New Yorker, I was elated when I found out I matched to the Mount Sinai Hospital for my Infectious Disease Fellowship. The fellowship program provided me a wide spectrum of learning opportunities in both general and transplant infectious diseases and HIV care and laid a strong foundation that prepared me well for the rest of my career. Not only were the learning opportunities diverse and numerous, but being surrounded by bright and supportive faculty and co-fellows really imprinted the type of physician I aspired to become. While the field of Infectious Diseases is always changing, training at Mount Sinai provided me the tools and foundation to always remain inquisitive, motivated, and humble with any new challenges that come about.

David Banach, MD

Class of 2012

The Mount Sinai Infectious Diseases Fellowship provides a tremendous breadth of clinical training in all areas of Infectious Diseases with an opportunity for fellows to focus their own specific areas of academic and clinical interest within the field. The diversity of the patient population served coupled with enthusiastic faculty dedicated to the training of fellows stand out as highlights of the fellowship experience.
