Preliminary Residency

Our preliminary program is designed to provide a solid one-year foundation in clinical medicine for those entering other specialties.

Thorough basic training in Internal Medicine is provided, with rotations in general inpatient medicine, geriatric medicine, cardiology and critical care medicine. As a result, preliminary residency graduates are able to managing most medical conditions. All preliminary interns also receive at least eight weeks of call-free elective time during the year to devote to Internal Medicine subspecialties and non-medical specialties (such as radiology), which may be completed at any Mount Sinai Health System campus.

At this program, I've been able to celebrate with and lean on interns, seniors, even fellows. The collegiality is refreshing as I gain stride as a new doctor. Samantha Cheng, MD
